I
woke to a bright sunny day, I left Octerarder and
headed towards Glen Almond the roads were quiet and just gently
rolled through the countryside. This was a good thing as I knew I had a hard afternoon
comming up. I got to Blair Gowrie about lunch time and stopped to have a bite to eat. Then it was onto the Grampian Mountains. The route wound its way around most of the hills, and mountains rising with slow steady climbs. The views were amazing this is what I thought Scotland would be like. The road carried on rising and going round the Cairnwell, which is a dirty great big mountain. That could be seen from miles away, and you know the road is going to take you right to it. As I got closer I realised just how big this thing was. The road snakes itself around the edge and is aptly named, the Devils Elbow. There are sheep either side of the road and are unfenced in, I was sure they waited to see me struggle before dancing out in front of me. I got about 1/2 way up and ground to a halt. On eventually reaching the summit, I was rewarded with a 5 mile blast down to Braemar. The view was great with the side of the mountain coloured purple with all the heather, there is a river that runs down from the mountains and on the way down there are people stopped and picnicking by the side and messing about with the water. Then before I knew it I was in Braemar. |
